My site’s been rather lifeless since the beginning of 2009, and I’ve been pondering over the factors causing such a desert. The first thing I thought of was the number of anime that I’ve been following. As of this year, there wasn’t a single point of time where I had more than 5 shows on my weekly watch list.

This let to further thought probing, and eventually realised that I wasn’t writing content that should be in a typical anime blog; Anime. Just take a look at the anime category and you’ll notice that ever since the year began, I’ve only written less than 20 entries. As expected, having such a watch list would lead to the result you see on this site now.
Still, I don’t think that the blame lies merely on my list. If I blog about all 5 shows when the weekly episodes get released, I should have a healthy number of posts under the anime category, shouldn’t I? That’s when the Watching to Blogging Ratio comes in.
Everyone has a varying ratio. It really depends on the person behind the blog. Some people simply enjoy blogging episodics, while some just have the habit of having a post to state their opinion after watching every single episode. These are the people who are actually blogging about anime, unlike fake anime bloggers like me.
You can’t blame me though. It’s simply not my habit to be blogging on each episode I watch, week after week. I’m hate repetition. Doing all the screen caps and writing a summary or my thoughts as a fixed weekly affair is a pain in the ass.
Episodic posts aside, I’ve also come to realise that I actually find it hard to write on the anime I fancy. Whenever I sit down and try to come up with a post on an anime that I enjoyed, I often find myself trashing the draft after much wrecking of my mind. Instead, I find it fairly easy to write about anime that I have a distaste for. Just look at how the K-ON! posts outnumber any other ones under the anime category for 2009.
I’m not the kind of person who finds it easy to express my praise in words. However, it’s the total opposite when it comes to poking fun at and dissing something. Usually, like any other sane being, I come up with my watch list according to what I like, with a occasional minority being one show which I dislike but watch anyway, just so that I can try to and write posts of lulz on it.
And there you have it, my Watching to Blogging ratio. Currently, I think it’s dipping slightly below 0.2. It doesn’t really say much, since a list of 5 shows is really short. But, I think that it’s not like I’d be blogging more about anime episodes or anime if I picked up a handful more of shows.
Maybe I should go watch some old shows released years ago so that I have some anime to blog about. Or try to get better at praising stuff.
Anyway, a question to those of you who blog. What is your ratio?

The number of shows I’m watching currently has little effect on how often I blog, honestly, but that’s because a vast majority of my posts are either editorials or reviews for finished series or movies, and I could have seen those series seasons ago as long as I remember them well enough. My blogging pace is just less than twice a week, but that’s not terrible if you’re consistent. :O
The winter and spring seasons have left a lot to be desired too. It’s hard to be inspired to write when there’s so much mediocrity.
Completely have to agree with you on writing about what you dislike being far easier than writing about what you do like. I’ve always wondered why that is.
God, aside from occasional series reviews and first impressions, I hardly blog about specific anime.
Most my posts revolve around my opinions about anime in general, which can pretty much be summarized as, “I hate moe.”
Watching a lot less now that I’m down under, but I try to slot in a post or two in a week whenever possible.
It’s true that there hasn’t been much to look forward to this and next season. Plus, I’ve grown lazy to try out new anime, and often find myself dropping most of what I try out in a couple of episodes.
Snark > You are my friend.
Shin > The Internets down under must suck real bad.
I don’t blog about anime.
I blog everything else related to anime. hurhurr.
