Restarting Eternal Sonata

I bought this game a very long time ago, sometime in October last year. Yet, till now, I’ve yet to complete the game. It’s not because the game’s in Japanese. I don’t really have much of a problem understanding the language in the game. Rather, I’ve been stuck at a boss fight or as long as I can remember.

Having entered an area which I could not exit, the only option left is to move on to the boss fight. This meant that I no longer had the choice of grinding for some extra levels to make the boss fight easier. All I could depend on is my skills. Skills that I lacked.

The battle system is based on a turn based sequence, with some real time elements. You only have a limited amount of time each turn to attack, and when your enemies attack, you have to react fast enough by punching the correct buttons at the correct timing to block or even counterattack. This is a problem for me. The RPGs that I’ve loved have always been turn based, but never real time. Games such as Dragon Quest had conditioned me, leaving me unprepared for such a game.

Lolis for the unprepared lolicons

I gave up on defeating the boss and left the game as it is. My PS3 was left the way it is too, for almost half a year. I was lucky that it could still boot.

Now that my holidays are here for 3 weeks, I’ve decided to try my hand at the game from scratch instead of fully focusing my time on assignments and studying for the tests that arrive after my holidays end. The gameplay is pretty fun if you’re good at it, and the graphics with a HDMI cable are awesome. The music’s nice too.

Anyone playing Eternal Sonota too? Teach me how to get pass that gayfaced boss who comes together with a demonic dragon! I must not get stuck there again!

From the gamefaqs guide by DomZ Ninja (which is for the 360 but this part is relevant to the PS3 version):

    > Count Waltz is joined by his pet dragon, Calamity Wilhm. He is
actually fairly strong, but usually resorts to melee attacks. They are slow
and easily predictable. You should be able to kill Calamity Wilhm in two
turns. With that said, make it your first priority to eliminate him so all
three can soon focus on the real threat.

Actually depending on who’s in your party, it could take 3 turns.

I think you can do harmony chains by now, so if you have allegretto and Jazz/Falsetto, use them to take out Calamity Wilhm. Before the battle, set allegretto to use Sun Slash and Starlight Blast, Jazz can use Geo blade and uh…any other multi-hit attack. Falsetto’s easier in this situation IMO because snow claw and howling thunder should keep the pressure on. This method will only take 2 turns.

Waltz, however, is dangerous because towards his death he will start to spam apocalypse fall, his worst attack. There’s no way around this other than to continuously block it, if it’s unblocked and done enough it will decimate your party members.

I also recommend spreading your players out as far as possible, with the exception of your two/three offensive frontliners. Even then, don’t clump them all together, space them around Waltz.

Early on, waltz will tend to use his light melee attacks, which you can block if concentrated on a single character.

Waltz, however, is smart. He runs behind your back, by then which you have no means of blocking. At this point, have as many heal items and prepare your support for an immediate healing.

Keep Jazz and Allegretto (or any melee character) you have on him in a “v”-ish formation, and perform as many harmony chains as possible. The key here is to prevent him from attacking, and at the end of the harmony chain, come out with full health. I recommend, if you’re anal/worried, set any mage support you have to cast ONLY healing spells/long range offensive spells.

WTF GAY! How the hell does he kill the dragon in 2 turns, let alone finish the battle in 3?

Huh, no the dragon can die in 2-3 turns. The battle can take far longer.

  4. 4 double

Oh sheez, I misread. But still, I think the dragon is gay. Though the boss guy looks/is much gayer.

The PS3 version is more difficult, less experience, less stats, and enemies have way more HP and do more damage. So the 360’s guide is unreliable.

I beat them with Allegretto, Jazz, and Viola. Took out the dragon first. I had viola far away from the enemies, regular firing her arrows and using Heal Arrows. I euipped Allegretto and Jazz with equipment that had BURST effect. You’ll have to successfully block at every opportunity and hope Waltz doesn’t get behind you.

    Not sure if that helps…

Give up and start playing Valkyria Chronicles lol, i have been addicted to that game since I got it

no name > I fail at blocking. Need to go train my sense of timing. Anyway, what level did you kick that boss’ ass at?

Kurtz > I shall wait in queue for tj han’s copy of the game.

you need to learn how to block properly, very hard to win if you can’t block..

I beat waltz with falsetto, viola and polka.

Polka was the main healer, viola at max range doing huge ranged DPS and falsetto at melee range.

You need to rely on the Harmony chains to win the fight.

I find myself doing nothing but waiting for the dungeon finder because I get so bored with the quests and etc. Can anyone enlighten me as to when this stops being so boring? I guess maybe I need some friends to help it pass by? idk.
