Chiaki’s “Onani Play” Criticism

For those of you who have watched or read Nodame Cantabile, do you remember when Chiaki criticised Mine, that punky rocker violinist, regarding the way he plays? Chiaki used the words “Onani play”, which translates to masturbation play. In other words, self pleasure. I still remember how I laughed at that. The phrase was simply hilarious.

Nodame’s expression while she says - Priceless

Yet, I think that the phrase can now be applied towards me. Yes, I think I’m guilty of that.

Dragon Quest Dai No Daibouken Is Good Shounen Manga

Ever since I completed the main story in DQ IX, I began reading Dragon Quest Dai No Daibouken. It’s one of the few mangas that were adapted from the original DQ games, and while it has been completed in 1996, translated scans of it are still being released online on a regular basis.

I must say, reading this manga as you playing along with a DQ game does increase the enjoyment one can derive from it. It’s yet another of those typical shounen mangas that follows the track of the usual DQ games; Hero fights against evil empire to save the world. I’ve played 4 DQ games and I’ve still not gotten sick of the same old thing that appears in all of them.

I Just Missed My Chance To Attend A Live Performance In Japan!

I was planning to attend Tacica’s live at Shibuya AX on 12 September. The ticket sales would only begin today, and as I have a friend who’s currently in Japan on a holiday, I asked her to help me purchase a ticket from Lawson. I was really hopeful that I could finally catch a favourite band in Japan this time.

Just moments ago, I received some bad news from my friend. I checked the Live section on Tacica’s site, and was greeted with a “THANK YOU SOLD OUT!!!”. Damn

Dragon Quest IX: My Review That Isn’t A Review

It’s been 6 days since I’ve started on DQ IX, and I’ve yet to complete the main story. Currently, I’m stuck at what I think is the last main boss, so I’ll have to go grind on more metal slimes. Meanwhile, I’ve been reading different opinions about how awesome or sucky the game is. Famitsu gave it a 40/40, while Amazon Japan is flooded with 1 and 2 star reviews.

Screw Famitsu, since I don’t believe that there is any game is perfect. Also, screw the 1 and 2 star Amazon Japan reviews, since that’s a concentrated effort by some 2ch trolls. Out of those who bought the game, everyone would be currently busy playing the game, except those trolls. As such, to me, DQ IX’s level of awesomeness will be defined only by myself. No way am I letting some punks sway my opinion of the game.

Here’s my take on it:

Cosfest VIII, 2009

Somehow, I wasn’t particularly feeling any emotions of excitement for this year’s event. The following are some of the plausible reasons as to why:

- Dragon Quest IX launched on Saturday. DQ IX grinding > Cosplay event

- I’ve grown up and/or have gotten lazy to drag my arse to such events

There might be more, but I guess these factors didn’t deter me from Cosfest, at least for this year. There wasn’t anything that was impressive this year, but here are some of the cosplays that caught a bit of my interest.
