I Bought A Nintendo DS Lite For Dragon Quest

I’ve been wanting to get a DS for a very long time, but have been hesitating as I just couldn’t find a reason to fully convince myself into getting one. Unlike how there are people buying the PSP solely for Monster Hunter, there wasn’t exactly a game to make me do so for the DS.

However, now that Dragon Quest IX’s being released in a couple of days, on 11th July, I decided that it’ll be a good time to chip in on the release and get myself a NDS Lite. While waiting for the release, I bought Dragon Quest V.

You must be wondering, “Why Dragon Quest?” My answer is a single word, “Nostalgia”. That’s the reason why I have always held Dragon Quest in higher regard as compared to Final Fantasy.

Back in the days of the Gameboy Color, I played DQ 1 and 2, as well as DQM 1 and 2. Those were really great games, and I enjoyed them thoroughly. I particularly love the DQM games, which explains why I was so disappointed at DQ: Joker.

However, that was all that I could play. If I’m not mistaken, the rest of the DQ games mostly on the PS2, which I never had. Even when I own a PS3 now, it’s hard to find the NSTC-J versions of games such as Dragon Quest VII, and even if I could get my hands on them, there’s no telling if they would work.

Since there are already 2 DQ remakes on the DS, I’m hoping that the remaining few that remain solely on the PS2 will eventually be ported over with time. That way, I’ll get to play them all.

As a measure of how addicted I am to Dragon Quest V now, it’s the only game that I’ve been playing ever since I got it on Thursday. I can’t imagine what I’ll do when I finally get my hands on a copy of Dragon Quest IX.

If I was in Japan, I would queue up for DQ IX’s launch event
