Addicted To Galileo Galilei

Galileo Galilei, a Japanese band comprising of member who are all younger than me. They used to be a 4 piece band, but their lead guitarist left recently. Now, they are left with 3 members; the guitar/vocals and bass being 18 and the drums being 16. At those ages, they have achieved what I can only dream off.

I was first introduced to them via SparkPlugged, which is a real awesome source for the lesser known Japanese bands. However, their music is hard to come by online, so I had to wait till I was over in Japan before I could grab a copy. As my netbook didn’t have a CD drive, I had to wait till I returned home before I could listen to any of the CDs I bought. I bought a whole lot of them, say 30,000+ yen worth.

I’m really impressed at the kind of sound they can produce at such an age. It’s unexpectedly mature, like the kind of sound produced by bands with members in the 20s or 30s. They sounds a little like a mixture of BUMP OF CHICKEN, RADWIMPS and The Pillows, but are still very unique in their own way.

I’ve been hooked their album, but I can’t put into words why I am. Just listen to it and you’ll find out why.

Also, there’s this song which sounds a little toe-ish at the intro, 扇風機.

Audio clip: Adobe Flash Player (version 9 or above) is required to play this audio clip. Download the latest version here. You also need to have JavaScript enabled in your browser.

Finally, their latest song, 夏空. Sadly, it’s only an purchasable download, so there wasn’t a way for me to get this in the form of a CD single.

Man, I really still can’t believe how old these guys are. Imagine the kind of music they’ll be produce in 10 years down the road.

Hey! Thanks coming over to my blog! So you went for Tsubaki live too??? Awesome!!!! If you ever go for live again, let me know!!! Maybe I’ll go with you to Japan for the live! Did you get to meet Isshiki-san and Ogawa-san? They were at the goods table ^_^

I just went for the last Tsubaki live last night at Shibuya Club Quatro before going back to Malaysia next week… I’m gonna miss these live very much! It’s very unfortunate I came in September instead of October coz almost ALLLLLLLLLL the bands are touring in October!!! Do you listen to Lunkhead? I love them very much too but I’m very very sad I’ll miss their live by just 6 hours!!!!!

    I must come again!

And yes, like you, I have a tendency to come here a little more than I should…. and each time I do, it’s usually because of a band! lols

Ah, I didn’t meet them. I left rather early after the live.

Yeah, I started listening to Lunkhead after someone I met at the live introduced it to me.

Thank you for posting the music! After reading the first part of the entry I went to look for them and couldn’t find them.

How cool that they are only teenagers!
