the Hiatus - Insomnia

Ever since ELLEGARDEN went on hiatus and Hosomi Takeshi formed a new band with a name suitable of depicting the situation, it seems that previous fans have never stopped comparing both bands. Even at the live I went, I could spot some people in ELLEGARDEN shirts. Many have yet to understand that while both ELLEGARDEN and the Hiatus has the same person steering the musical ship, they are 2 totally different bands, and thus, should not be placed against each other for comparison.

When I first looped through the songs on the Insomnia EP, I was blown away. Never had I expected such a drastic change from the guy who once wrote punk rock. It was no longer punkish, but rather, music nearing the borderlines of genres such as post-rock and shoegaze. Of course, post-rock and shoegaze wouldn’t exactly be a fitting categorisation, but the songs emitted the vibes I would usually get from tuning in to music ranging from toe and mono to sleepy.ab and THE NOVEMBERS.

Winds of Change Blow - Sheesh Y’all, It’s More Than Just Anime

If you’ve noticed, I’ve changed the “catchphrase” for this blog. An e-cookie for anyone who knows where I ripped part of the phrase from.

More than 2 years ago, I started blogging on this site with the intention of building my very own word dump for whatever thoughts I had regarding my obsession at that point of time; Anime and the otaku subculture. It started off well, and at one of point of time, I had so much to write about that I was posting on a daily basis. Thinking back, I’m amazed at how I could come up with posts so easily.

Evangelion still rocks, though

However, it’s no longer the same. The flames of obsession were burning too rapidly, so rapidly that I suffered a burnout. I was thinking that I could possibly recover with time, but as time passed, my interest continued to wane. Then, in July 2009, I quit anime as I actually felt too tired of watching the episodes.

Thus, I’ve come to a decision that this site’s focus will change.

An Unexpected Birthday Greeting

I turned 19 today.

I’m not the kind of person who goes around telling his friends, “Hey it’s my birthday *hint: Get me a present*”. It’s simply just not my style. Also, it’s a day just like any other, only that you happened to be born on that day, so I don’t buy the nonsense of special treatment on such a day. If my friends find out and wish me, that’s great. I don’t require any presents since I’ve never seen the need to receive any.

I got quite a few birthday greetings on Facebook, far more than in real life. Then, this mail came in via Mixi.

Anime Festival Asia 2009

It’s past mid-November, which means that it’s time for AFA again. Bah, why do I even have to say this. Most people who are reading this would have been there.

I may not be a fan of K-ON, but this Japanese Mio’s cute

I didn’t manage to attend AAC ‘09 which was held on 20th November as I had school. School sucks. It was a real pity that I missed out on it as I heard that it was a rather enriching experience. You certainly couldn’t expect less from an industry talk. You can find out more about the event from Darkmirage’s coverage.

My event posts have often been a huge messy ramble, and I don’t really like that. Hence, I shall take up a neater, categorised approach towards this AFA ‘09 post.

JLPT 2, 2009

The test voucher for this year’s JLPT came in recently. I’ll be taking level 2, which will be held at Singapore Management University on 6th December.

Unlike last year’s level 3, which was a breeze, I lack the confidence that I can pass this round’s paper. That really shouldn’t be happening.
