I have this habit of fast forwarding, skipping through parts of a show I’m watching. I think it has to do with my short attention span, but it does work wonders. For example, I can watch 2-3 episodes of Japanese drama, each nearly 40-50 minutes long, in just a single hour. I do the same for movies too, so a 90 minute movie can get cut down to 30 minutes.
I’m not saying that I do this for everything, but mostly for the stuff I find really boring. The problem is, I tend to get bored real easily, even for the things that I may have liked at the start. For most J-drama that I watch on a weekly basis, I usually finish up an episode in less than 30 minutes, since I only watch the parts that are crucial to the storyline, interest me, or are just plain hilarious. Completed series that I watch in batches take an even shorter time.
Exceptions exist though. Currently, I’m watching Iryu (Team Medical Dragon). Having completed the first season and halfway though the second, there was only 1 episode which I watched without skipping. It was the episode about the backstory of the anesthetist, Arase. The rest of the episodes, I usually skip more than half, mostly stopping at the scenes in the operation theatre.
For anime, unless the OP and/or ED is great, I’ll just skip them, shaving a couple of minutes on the already short episode. I can’t really skip much of the episode since 20 odd minutes is really short. An attempts to skip so that I can bypass the unimportant stuff and go straight to the core might end up in actually missing out on important bits and pieces. As such, if I find that I have to skip sections in an episode, I just totally stop watching the anime.
There’s a solution for skipping movies, but that costs money since I’ll have to watch it in the cinema. However, I usually only watch flicks that I really have an interest in, and know that I wouldn’t try skipping any portions of in the cinema, so it’s all good. Good but still, costly.
You must be thinking, ” Wow, why does this guy even bother watching anything then? He sure is a weirdo” after reading this. Well, I am one.
Is anyone a member this weirdo club too?

There is only a small percentage of me skipping a show when it has a flashback in the first 5 minutes of the show.
Nice blog. Did you already know that there will be sixth season anime of Major? lol
Really? Where did you get that news from?
I almost never skip anything I watch, I’m a stickler for watching everything because I have a phobia of missing details or something lol.
When I used to watch anime with my brother, I insisted on watching the op and end of every show (painful when watching Kanon) because I wanted to experience what Japanese viewers would experience: they wouldn’t be able to skip through it because they are watching it on tv. I’m more flexible now.
