Falling Out Of The Anime Loop

I think I’m really slipping out of sync with anime. Seriously, when even my sister who started watching anime under my influence begins to ask me about some current season series which I have totally no clue about, it seems my otaku level is taking a plunge. In fact, I think that she watches at least double of my current watch list.

It wouldn’t be strange if my sister usurps this blog, since I think she does write about anime somewhere out there in cyberspace, in her small blog which I recall spotting on her laptop’s screen a couple of times. I have no idea what the url is though. But then again, considering how lazy she is to write, the chances of that actually happening are pretty low. So I’m safe, I suppose.

Laughable 20th Century Boys Live Action Movie Reviews

Yahoo Singapore’s movie site has some of the funniest reviews of 20th Century Boys ever.

Here are some of my replies to parts of the various reviews. Note that the quotes are directly copied and pasted.

Mirage Of Blaze Cosplay

While I was in Tokyo, besides being a cosplayer, I played the role of a photographer as well. I did a brief cosplay photo shoot of Bangin and his friend. Both of them were cosplaying as characters from Mirage Blaze, a really old shoujo manga which I have never heard of until Bangin told me about it. I doubt many of you have heard of it before either.

Actually, this can’t really be counted as cosplay, since the clothes as regular, but I guess it all boils down to how you perceive it as. For example, some people might say that the Shinji cosplay wasn’t a cosplay, while others might think otherwise.

Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann: Gurren-hen

Somehow or another, I managed to catch Gurren Lagann on the silver screen while I was in Japan 2 weeks ago. Despite the movie tickets in Japan being crazily overpriced, I still went ahead with the movie even after I’ve already watched 20th Century Boys which life-drained a steep 1,500 yen out of my wallet.

I shall keep this review short and sweet, since there’s really not much difference from the movie and the anime series, except for the movie being much more compressed, and packing some really uber scenes.

Cosplay In Japan

I’ve already revealed the Ikari Shinji Cosplay, but since we were at a cosplay event in Harumi, there were other cosplays too. I must say, the level of cosplay at the event we attended was much higher than that of the events back home.

Wow, May’n’s Going To Perform Live In Singapore!

Due to my Japanese lesson, I missed the mini announcement session Dentsu had yesterday, which almost everyone from the local otaku scene attended. Drats!

Anyway, despite not being able to attend the event, information does spread fast over the net, and now everyone and their loli knows that May’n’s heading over to Singapore for the AFA08. Hurray! Looks like I’m going to fork out some cash for something more than the normal seating.

Back To Reality

The past 16 days went by me so swiftly, it felt so surreal. Just slightly over 2 weeks ago, I was at this same desk, posting about heading off to Japan. Yet, in just a flash of an eye, I’m back here again, typing.

This round’s loot is pathetic. Really…

Ikari Shinji

I attended a cosplay event today at Harumi, and there, the Evangelion Unit 01 pilot was spotted in his school uniform.

In Tokyo

After riding trains for almost 8 hours, I’ve finally made it from the south to Tokyo. The first thing I did after checking into the hostel was to head down to Akihabara for dinner and a little shopping. I had dinner, and literally did a little shopping.

20th Century Boys Live Action Movie

Earlier this afternoon, I managed to catch the movie at the cinema in Canal City Hakata. I was actually planning to do a post on Ooita first, but it’ll be better if I did this first while it’s still fresh in my mind.
