Respectable Scums

Everyone in Black Lagoon’s stained, Rock too. Even so, there are characters who I think deserve the respect.

It seems that apart from Balalaika and Mr Chang, nearly the rest of Roanapur has lost even the slightest sense of chivalry.

Anime DVD Collecting

I bought my first Region 2 anime DVD back in the start of 2007. 6 Black Lagoon DVDs from Amazon Japan, which were sadly raped by MDA. After that experience, I was rather hesitant to continue expanding my collection by importing more DVDs from Amazon Japan. Also, the costs of Japanese DVDs did not help either. But I still continued anyway. Gurren Lagann was simply too awesome.

Now, this is one hell of an Anime DVD Collection. This belongs to some otaku, NOT me.

Balalaika owns! We need more of these videos!

Look at this awesome video I found. I laughed so hard throughout the entire clip that now my stomach hurts.

If you can see this, then you might need a Flash Player upgrade or you need to install Flash Player if it's missing. Get Flash Player from Adobe.

Balalaika seriously kicks arse. And the person who did this video is indeed creative.

I need more stuff to laugh at, so MOAR OF SUCH VIDEOS PLZ!

Anime OPs and EDs: Examples of what’s Good and what’s Crude

There are many anime out there, and together with the various series are the many opening and ending songs. So, with so many anime OP and ED songs out there, how do you judge what’s good and what sucks?

Anime Songs are in fact Japanese Pop songs, so the way to judge them is rather similar.

There 3 basic components that make or break a song, regardless of what genre of song it is.

  • Instrumental Tune
  • Lyrics
  • Artiste’s Vocals

I’m not any music guru, nor have I learnt anything about music before. Heck, I can’t even blow the recorder properly. But, I feel that the 3 points stated above are the foundation for a song. It’s pretty much common sense, but it seems that many artistes don’t have it.

For anime songs however, I feel that there’s another component which should be included so as to decide how great a song it is. This, however, is a bonus section. If the song fails the previous 3 basic points, it fails, even if it does well in this section.

  • The song’s ability to link to it’s anime series (this is pretty much linked to the lyrics component)

I don’t think I expressed this properly, so let me give you an example.

A song which I feel is has scored in all components would be “Tomorrow”, which is the OP for Full Metal Panic, sung by Shimokawa Mikuni. Why?

Cowboy Bebop and Black Lagoon : A Similar Scene

I can’t seem to think of what to write, and I’ll be going to a 4-day camp on Tuesday, so it’ll mean no updates for a long time. So, I’ve decided to write on something that just came randomly to my mind.

I’ve just finished watching Cowboy Bebop just recently. It’s a really action-packed anime. Watching it reminds me of when I was watching Black Lagoon, especially since the last episodes of both titles have a somewhat similar scene. In Cowboy Bebop, Spike and Vicious face off, while Revy and Gin do the same in Black Lagoon. In both fights, Spike and Revy used guns and Vicious and Gin used katanas. And what makes the two fights similar is the way they fight. The two using guns charge towards the sword-users and try to fight them at melee range.
