It wasn’t much of an adventurous journey, really. Basically, Yoko departed Amazon Japan in Tokyo on 28th February, took a flight, stopped by Subic Bay Freeport in the Philippines for a short break, before finally making her way over to Singapore. She arrived this morning, 29th February at 6am, while I was still snuggling in bed. Some time around 10am, she arrived at my doorstep with her escort, the Fedex delivery man.

Yoko’s flight route right after the break.

Anyone heard of figurine company EyeUp?

Apparently, there are rather unknown, and if you compare them to other larger companies such as the Trinity (GSC, Alter, Max Factory), it’s like comparing an Evangelion to a Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann.
Still, I somehow chanced upon EyeUp’s website, and some of the stuff they are featuring for the upcoming WonderFest have caught my attention.

I guess this post’s title could be applied for 2 matters. My examination, as well as my Gurren Lagann DVDs. Just this morning, the FEDEX delivery man brought in my amazon package. To my surprise, it was intact. No ripped up box with missing DVDs that were sent to the MDA, unlike my previous package. Whew, I guess luck is on my side this time. I hope it’s on my side too, when I order the Evangelion 1.0 DVD.
Just in case you are bored of me blabbering on and on, I shall reveal evidence of the loot.

Still in the pretty shrink wrap

The fifth DVD of Gurren Lagann was released a few weeks ago, and I finally got it. There was the regular edition as well as the limited release edition. A cookie for anyone who guessed which one I got my hands on.

The picture says it all. This CD did not have any bubble wrap or protection of any sort. And it costs like 55 bucks, so it’s too expensive for me to get another copy. Damn it. This really ruined my day.

Today’s trip to KKnM was only supposed to be for me to sell the Evangelion 3D card to Sentinel011. Just before I headed down, I recieved 2 smses. Sweet.
Yoko from Gurren Lagann, and the 2 Pinky:ST Evangelion girls have arrived.
At KKnM, when it was finally my turn to purchase (the queue was considered long for a weekday), I collected my 2 preorders, and at the same time, enquired about the Petite Eva mini figurines that were in the arrival list. It turned out that they were keychains. I was still pondering over whether to get it, but once I was told that not all sets have the limited angel that comes with Ayanami Rei, I was immediately sold to the Petite Evas.

Sentinel came over soon after I was done with my purchase and bought the card.
Let me calculate my finances for the day. Continue reading ‘Gainax Loot’

Even before Gurren Lagann ended, I have always wanted to get the original limited edition R2 DVDs. When I went to Akihabara last money, the son-of-a-gun shopkeeper refused to sell me the DVDs as he kept insisting that I did not understand Japanese and hence was not suitable for purchasing them. That arsehole. He pissed me off, that bastard.
After that, I decided to order online, and unfortunately, they were all out of stock. All 3 volumes that have currently been released are totally sold out. The only way of getting them? Yahoo Japan Auctions. Shipping’s not cheap, and the Japanese are crazy people when it comes to bidding on auctions. Hence, my chances of getting them at an acceptable price are pretty low.
The DVDs are awesome looking, especially volume 2, which comes together with the box to contain till volume 4.
Here are the pictures of the 3 volumes.

Finally, Gainax didn’t do what it did with Evangelion. The last episode of Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann was totally awesome. Not like some stupid 2 episode self reflection and a final congratulating session by the entire cast. The Evangelion TV series’ ending was pretty stupid. The End of Evangelion, however, is pure ownage. If the End of Evangelion is 100% epic, then so is the final episode of Gurren Lagann.

お疲れ様でした
Tears of passion almost flowed out during the final battle with the Anti-spirals. And who said anime cannot be as emotional as real life?
