Preventing Otakus From Making Impulse Purchases Is Futile

I was browsing through LifeHacker and I came across this rather interesting article regarding a 100 dollar-a-day rule to prevent impulse purchasing.

For every $100 that I want to spend on the purchase of a new product, I must wait one day before I make the purchase. This creates a self-imposed ‘cooling-off’ period.

It sounded quite useful, so I decided to put some further thought, thinking through how I can utilise this strategy to curb my purchasing habits. After much thought,I realised I couldn’t do so for my otaku purchases.

Impulse Purchases : A guide on how to prevent them

I’m sure every collector has done many impulse purchases. My days as a collector have been merely less than a year,but I have already done many impulse purchases,which in the end caused me quite some pain.

I’ve always wanted to stop having the impulse to buy something that looks good in the shops,but there’s just this natural instinct within me which makes me continue on my purchasing spree. As a result,I spend my month’s allowance almost every week. Yes,I know,it’s not healthy. Fortunately,for me,I have been saving up before I became an anime fan,so it should be able to last me for a while. But,this is still not a solution.

As such,I have come up with some ideas,which might help both myself and anyone reading this post.

Purchases over the weekend

It has become some kind of a (negative) habit for me to buy at least something anime related every weekend. I guess that why my savings are getting drained slowly as each week passes.

I was determined to end my spending habits this weekend,but it seemed that I succumbed to temptation. All thanks to the 20% Kinokuniya sales at Liang Court.
