A 2-Day Japanese Student Exchange Programme

Actually, I wouldn’t call it an exchange programme, since the Japanese students were having it with another school instead of mine. However, I had 3 friends who came over, and  they asked me to join them during their free time. I was more than glad to hang out with them, despite the strict timings they were given. All that rushing around really sucked, but there’s nothing much that can be done since they were with their school. That’s the reason why I would rather go over to Japan on a personal visit, as opposed to going with my school.

Meeting New Japanese Female Students Is Great, Yet A Torture

Each time this happens, the process of meeting them is nice. But it’s just a fleeting dream.

In case you were curious, a girl commented on the shirt and how she liked Evangelion, while the rest know of it too. Evangelion is mainstream in Japan, just like Pokemon and Doraemon. Hence, it’s not the Nerv logo shirt which is supposed to be a high level stealth ninja, since I didn’t have Ayanami Rei printed across my chest.

Japanese College Student Homestay 2

Once again, I volunteered as a host for yet another exchange program. It’s already my third time participating as a host, and quite probably the last as well, since I’ll soon be a year 3 student who won’t have any time to spare during the school holidays. I hope not…

This group arrived from Kumamoto, small but more balanced as compared to the previous all-male group from Hiroshima. Due to work, I only managed to meet the Japanese students a few days after their arrival.

Bon Voyage To Hiroshima

At the time this post is published, the exchange students from HITP will already be slacking comfortably in their homes back in Hiroshima, so the title’s lagging.

On Monday night, together with our Japanese friends, we left the school apartment and headed for Changi Airport to bid them farewell before they head back home. This is probably the first time I’ve sent friends off at the airport, since I left for my Japan trip in late March before the previous batch of students from Kumamoto did. Most of the time, I’m at the airport either to leave the country, or to welcome someone.

Surprisingly, no one cried. I guess it’s because there were no female Japanese students. Hur Hur.

Japanese Polytechnic Student Homestay

As briefly mentioned in my previous post, I hosted a Japanese student who came all the way from a Polytechnic in Hiroshima, Japan, over the weekends. It was a rather good opportunity to practice some casual Japanese, as well as to expand my contacts.

It turned out that my homestay student studies Architecture, practices boxing, and loves motorcycles. That’s the exact opposite of what I am. Still, he told me that he was glad that I could speak Japanese, since he was rather worried about communication problems before the homestay began.

This time, unlike the previous exchange program I experienced in March earlier this year, most of the time we spent going out was in a pair of 2 hosts and students, or as a huge group. This time, however, almost all the hosts could speak some Japanese. Most took classes in school, and could manage with asking if they wanted to eat, or what they wanted to do.
