Should I Be Glad That Tales Of The Abyss Retains Its Theme Song?

I’ve never played the game since I never owned a PS2, so I shall not speak of what I lack knowledge of. However, I can confidently say that I’ve looped through its theme song, Karma, for at least a few hundred times ever since I started listening to Bump of Chicken back in 2006. I was quite surprised that the anime adaptation’s using Karma as the opening theme song too. With this, Bump of Chicken will now have 2 songs out of their entire discography related to anime. In case you’re wondering, the other song is Sailing Day, which was the ending theme song for one of the One Piece movies.

Takahashi Hitomi - Atashi no Machi, Ashita no Machi

I never knew of Takahashi Hitomi until the day of I heard this song in Toshokan Sensou’s OP. I’m really hooked on her voice and this song to an extent that I’ve tried to the very best of my moonspeak linguistic abilities to translate this song. After all, it doesn’t seem like anyone’s going to do it, since she isn’t exactly popular.

Pardon my mistakes, as I have only picked up Japanese for less than a year, 9 months to be exact. Also, the only person who has checked through this translation is me, since I couldn’t get anyone else. There’s always a first time for everything, I guess.

Corrections and suggestions for improvement are greatly welcomed. よろしくね。

Superlative Cowards

In other words, Radwimps. Somehow, the band managed to come up with such a name by putting 2 unrelated English words together. Japanese band names never cease to amuse me, and neither do the quality of the music of such bands with weird names.

For the past 2 months, this band’s music has been looping continuously on my playlist, be it on winamp, my portable media player, or even my handphone now. Yes, I’m using my handphone for music on the go now because my portable media player broke down after serving its overlord for a good two years and six months.

It’s been a long time since I posted specifically on a music artiste, but it’s not that anyone really reads my music posts anyway. This time, I’ll shall talk less and let the music talk more. 2 of my favourite Radwimps PVs with translations right after the break.

Nakanomori Band - Electric Girl

I’ve been a really free man for the past week, leading a rather hikkikomori-like lifestyle for the past few days. The only time I went out was on Wednesday for a barbecue. The rest of the time was spent in front of my 2 screens.

To kill some boredom, I decided to explore some artistes which I had never tuned in to before. And so, I chanced upon Nakanomori Band’s newest album, Electric Girl.

I Fail At Age Estimation

Seriously, that’s one thing that I can never do properly.

For example, look at this picture. How old do you think she is?

I guessed 20-21.

Music Of Major

One thing that I really like about Major are the theme songs. Specifically, the opening theme songs. I realised that I always skipped the ending theme songs for a two reasons. They don’t sound good on the first hearing, and I’m too impatient to wait an extra minute or so before I go on to the next episode.

Actually, this post is going to be mostly on Road of Major, the band which performed the OPs for the first three seasons of Major. After all, I did say that I skipped most of the EDs, so I can’t really say much about them.

A Cruel Angel’s Thesis

This song originated more than 10 years ago, together with the beginning of Evangelion, with the original singer being Takahashi Youko.

Is Your Entire Musical Preference 101% Purely Related to Anime?

There are some people who just watch anime, and the only music that they like and tune in to are the anime opening and ending theme songs. There are also others who watch anime, but their choice of music they listen to does not end with just anime songs, but expands on to a wide range of Japanese Pop.

I watch anime, but my music library does not end at anime-related songs. In fact, about 50% of my music library is Japanese Pop which has no link to anime. The other 50% is anime-related music, such as OSTs and theme songs. And yes, all I have are Japanese music, Japanese music and more Japanese music.

Even though I lack the skills to play any musical instrument and have no sense of rhythm, I love listening to music, especially good music. Good music does not necessarily have to be popular music. I know of obscure artistes who compose and sing songs which are much better than the mainstream pop songs. Not that I am saying that mainstream is bad.

For example, has anyone heard of Tsubaki? No, not that animeblogger Tsubaki, but the Japanese Rock band. You would probably not have know this rather unknown band, especially if you only listen to anime songs. That’s because all their releases were not even remotely connected to anime. I too, did not notice the existence of this band till one fine day, when I chanced upon one of their newer singles.

I listened, got hooked, and moved on to more of their music. Their latest full album release, Portrait+, has a rather awesome compilation of songs. What attracted me to their songs would be the laid back feeling that their music possesses. Their style of music reminds me of Bump of Chicken.

I shall take this opportunity to promote one of my favourite Japanese bands. I have done so with Bump of Chicken, but it was a pity I did not have any sample tracks. This time, however, I shall provide some tracks for you to judge whether their music suits your taste.
