After hearing the hilarious tale of how The Sojourner was forced into playing the piano after his parents watched the Nodame Cantabile drama, it sparked my interest and I soon found myself watching the anime. After all, K-ON! alone isn’t enough to satisfy my appetite for music-themed anime since it seems to be focusing more on snacks rather than the music.

I’m almost done with the first season of the anime, and I’ve come to realise how similar Nodame and Yui are. Yui’s just like a guitar playing version of Nodame with loads of Moe implants. It’s as though Yui’s character was based on Nodame.

After this scene which lasted for less than a minute, let’s witness the power of Akiyama Mio’s Moe level. Surely she can influence the otaku crowd to spend on whatever she endorses, can’t she?

With the power of her Moe Moe Kyun~, wallets will bleed rivers

We’ve all witnessed the “miracles” invoked by K-ON!, such as a surge in the sales of a certain left-handed Fender Japan Bass model via the brainwashing of otaku minds, and Fender Japan laughing all the way to the bank. Should I be envious of the wealth or the loaded customers who bought a left-handed bass that costs more than 70,000 yen without any hesitation, or should I be laughing my ass off at this phenomenon while feeling sorry for the soon-to-be dust collecting neglected instruments? This is such a pity.
Well, since K-ON! has done it’s fair share of instrumental endorsements such as the guitars and amps, should it try to make a milk the cash cow further by endorsing other merchandise. Not everyone who watches the anime is rich enough to run out and grab a instrument costing hundreds or even thousands of dollars. Thus, to let everyone join in the fun of buying whatever merchandise that appears in the anime for even a split second, I recommend magazines. Music magazines like GiGS.

I know it’s anime, but I still find it unbelievable.

There, you have Yui.
She started on the guitar like sometime before the mid-year exams, which should be sometime around May. Summer break’s in August. That’s about 3 months of playing the guitar without any musical background except the castanet in kindergarten.

It appears that K-ON! stands high and mighty in the limelight this Spring, with girls rocking out as a band. I’ve read countless posts and comments about how awesome it is, so I watched it.

While I found it much more interesting than Lucky Star, which I thought was really horrible, I still find myself thinking that BECK’s much better in comparison. I know that BECK’s anime ended long ago, but I don’t remember seeing much praise for it, except from tj_han. In fact, the amount of praise I’ve seen for K-On within a time frame of merely 2 episodes far outnumbers all the praise I’ve witnessed for BECK. I doubt it’s due the freshness of the series, considering other old anime still receive much praise despite concluding earlier than BECK.
